Fireplace Surrounds

Full-height fireplace surrounds, hearths, and mantels cut from a single slab. Porcelain and sintered stone handle the heat without discolouring, which makes them our first recommendation for a feature wall you'll look at every day.

Overview

What we do, and how it feels.

A fireplace surround is the one surface in a room that everyone looks at. We fabricate full-height surrounds, hearths, mantels, and firebox returns cut from a single slab, with mitred edges so the stone reads as one solid mass rather than panels stuck to a wall. Porcelain and sintered stone are our first recommendation here, because they take the heat without discolouring.

Why fabricate your fireplace with us

One slab, floor to ceiling.

  • 1

    Heat-stable materials

Porcelain and sintered slabs hold their colour next to a firebox, where some natural stones and engineered quartz can discolour over time.

  • 2

    Full-height feature walls

A surround carried from hearth to ceiling turns a chimney breast into the focal point of the room, with the veining laid out to suit the wall.

  • 3

    Mitred returns

Edges are mitred rather than butted so corners read as solid stone, with a hairline seam instead of an exposed slab thickness.

  • 4

    Hearth and mantel to match

Hearths, mantels, and returns are cut from the same slab as the surround, so nothing is left looking approximate.

How a surround comes together

From slab layout to final fit.

  1. 01

    Design consult

We look at the wall, the firebox clearances, and the effect you want, then compare slabs against the room.

  2. 02

    Slab layout

We photograph the slab and place the veining digitally so the pattern lands where you'll actually see it.

  3. 03

    Fabrication

The surround, hearth, and returns are cut and mitred on our five-axis saws, then hand-polished.

  4. 04

    Installation

Our own crew sets the pieces, closes the seams, and leaves the room clean.

FAQ

Fireplace Surrounds questions, answered.

Still wondering about something? Call us at (236) 885-6461. Real humans answer.

  • Which material is safest around a firebox?

Porcelain and sintered slabs. They're dimensionally stable at high temperatures and hold their colour, where some natural stones and engineered quartz can discolour near sustained heat. We always work to the firebox manufacturer's clearance requirements.

  • Can you cover the whole wall, floor to ceiling?

Yes. Large-format slabs let us run a surround the full height of the wall with very few seams, and we place the ones we need where they read least.

  • Can you match the fireplace to my countertops?

Often, yes. If the slab is still available we'll cut both from the same material, and if it isn't we'll source the closest match through our supplier partners.

  • Do you handle gas or electric firebox work?

We fabricate and install the stone. Firebox supply, gas fitting, and framing are handled by the licensed trades on your project, and we coordinate our install around their schedule.
